Per Albin Standup

”Per Albin Standup” is a short film based on Per Albins Hansson’s classic political speech from 1928 about ”Folkhemmet” – ”The People’s Home”. The speech’s keynote – that a good society should be like a good home, governed by equality, consideration, cooperation and helpfulness – became a central metaphor in the creation of the Swedish welfare society, and still is a central theme in many political debates. Per Albin Hansson was chairman of the Social Democrats 1925-1946, and Swedish Prime Minister 1932-1936 and 1936-1946.

On the film’s soundtrack, the original recording of Per Albin Hansson’s voice meets an imagined audience of today. The film was produced for Swedish public service television company SVT as a cultural comment to the Swedish general elections 2002, part of a series of short films named ”Valsedlar” (Ballots). In Swedish. Duration: 2 minutes.

Concept, script, editing, post production: Carl Myrén. Project manager, Sveriges Television: Sonja Döhre. Archival footage: Sveriges Television. Production: Myrén Film for SVT.
